BROKERAGE CLIENT ACCOUNTS
Those who saw the recent BBC programme that suggested client monies (deposit & completion funds) should be placed with a solicitor are advised that this is neither possible nor necessary.
A Client Account is mandatory for all ABYA members and their bank will provide a letter indemnifying the independent nature of the account. We advise ABYA members to ask their accountant to verify the account every year at audit.
Boat buyers and sellers are advised to find out about the broker they are using – are they members of a professional organisation? Do they have a good reputation? Ask around at the sailing club or marina.
All our members are listed on the ABYA website under Yacht Brokerage/Sales – Find a Broker. If you have a query, just call us – we are always pleased to help.
YBDSA BELIEVES PROFESSIONALISM IS CRITICAL IN THE CURRENT FINANCIAL CLIMATE
YBDSA members (ABYA and YDSA) are generally maintaining a good level of work in the current financial situation. A number of surveyors are doing more work on re-possessions than formerly and brokers are working hard to find good boats to offer for sale. In such a climate buyers and sellers alike are keen to ensure they receive a professional service which they can trust. Membership of ABYA or YDSA pays dividends as clients understand that their broker or surveyor has the back-up of a professional association, offering support when queries arise.
