YBDSA membership

Membership of the YBDSA is open to brokers, yacht agents and dealers (ABYA) and to surveyors and designers (YDSA). All members have to carry Professional Indemnity Insurance cover and maintain their training, achieving at least 15 Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points every three years.

The grades of ABYA/YDSA membership are as follows:

Affiliate (YDSA only)
Associate
Full
Fellow
Honorary

Members normally enter at the lowest grade as an Affiliate and may upgrade after assessment. In the case of surveyors this will include a formal examination. Affiliates are not entitled to advertise their membership.

At present the YDSA has only a small number of designer members. We are keen to encourage more to join us and support the work of the Association, so that we can in our turn provide services to them.

The YBDSA took over the secretariat of the Professional Charter Association (PCA) in 2002 to provide backup and to represent charter skippers and operators in their dealings with legislative and other issues.

The Subscribers' group of partner organisations was created to allow those from allied professions to participate in the Association. Members are drawn from insurers, marine finance houses, marine lawyers, engineers, testing and diagnostic companies, and other organisations such as publishers. There is a special class of subscription for students, whether at college or training on the job, who are entitled to receive Association information free for three years.

Application forms for the various types of membership are available here.
