The Association of Brokers and Yacht Agents (ABYA)

ABYA news

Following its recent AGM, the Association of Brokers and Yacht Agents has a new Chairman and Deputy Chairman.

Bill Bullimore, who owns and runs Patrick Boyd Multihulls, takes up the non-executive position of ABYA Chairman. Bullimore has been selling multi-hulled craft for many years with a worldwide client base. He brings a wealth of international brokerage experience to the role and following his successful election said, "I firmly believe that the aims and practices of ABYA can only benefit the market place by providing a secure environment to buy boats - and I intend to use my period in office to take ABYA forward and ensure that its profile amongst the boating public is further enhanced."

Paul Mudie becomes the Deputy Chairman – Mudie owns ABNB Narrowboat Brokerage, operating on the inland waterways. He has been a member of the ABYA committee for several years and is on record as saying that brokerage best practice on the inland waterways lags behind coastal brokerage and he is determined to work towards rectifying this.

Jane Gentry, Chief Executive of ABYA, comments, "We are really pleased that the current leading officers show a wide diversity of skills and specialisations, properly reflecting the whole of ABYA’s highly professional and experienced membership."

About ABYA

The Association of Brokers and Yacht Agents was formed to maintain the highest professional standards in the sale and purchase of new and secondhand craft.

Members include brokers who act as intermediaries between vendors and purchasers, as well as dealers buying and selling boats on their own account and those taking boats in part exchange.

ABYA runs regular courses for new brokers and seminars and training sessions for the more experienced professional who wants to keep up with developments.

The ABYA Committee consists of twelve elected members, and meets quarterly to discuss issues directly of consequence to broker members, including standard contracts, training and membership.

ABYA is a member of the International Yacht Council, which means that all ABYA members are entitled to advertise their boats for sale on the internet-based brokerage system based at www.yachtcouncil.com.
